Since 1920 when five unique handles and ten sockets that snapped on interchangeably, coined “Five do the work of Fifty”, Snap-on has been trusted by professionals in critical industries around the world. From our beginnings in the automotive workshop, to the front lines of World War II, to new horizons in space, Snap-on has been a part of both critical jobs, and critical moments in history.

1927 Spirit of St. Louis

Snap-on tools serviced the ground-breaking Spirit of St. Louis, helping it complete the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean.

1921 Manufacturing

Founder Joe Johnson actively promoted the Snap-on line to large automotive manufacturing plants in Detroit to help increase productivity for this growing industry.

1941 - WW2

Snap-on becomes a preferred supplier of hand tools for the military during World War II.

1930 - Industrial Safety

To prevent heavy sockets from dropping off the drive and causing injury, the patented “Safety-First Socket Lock” first appeared.

2011 Snap-on Level 5 ATC System

Introduced the innovative ATC system to provide a simple and user-friendly solution for detecting tools issued from and returned to a toolbox.

1982 - Space Exploration

Snap-on works with NASA to develop special tools for astronauts.
